Rhea conducted geotechnical investigations, analyses, and designs for the improvement and expansion of a paved taxiway and apron at a Pennsylvania airport.

Airport Taxiway Widening + Apron Rehabilitation

Rhea was tasked with conducting a geotechnical investigation and pavement design for the expansion and rehabilitation of a taxiway and apron at an airport in Clarion County Pennsylvania. First, Rhea personnel needed to determine the design of the existing pavement and identify soil conditions below the ground surface. Rhea oversaw the drilling of seven borings, four of which were advanced through the existing asphalt pavement. The asphalt composition was assessed, and the subsurface soils were evaluated through laboratory testing. Rhea used this information, along with data on airport traffic and aircraft weight, to make pavement design recommendations for the improved and expanded pavements.
