Our Name

Our names comes from Rhea, a goddess of Earth — our work is deeply rooted in our naming origins. As a woman-owned engineering firm, protecting our precious planet and its resources defines our vision, guides our practice, and takes shape in all we do.

In Greek mythology, the titan Rhea (Ree-uh) was the mother of the gods and a goddess of Earth. Her husband, Kronos feared that one of their children would grow to overthrow him, so he devoured each of them. Rhea knew that to save her children, she needed to trick her husband. When her son, Zeus was born, she hid him and offered Kronos a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes instead. Kronos was fooled, and Rhea arranged for Zeus to be raised in secret with the help of spirits and animal companions. One of these was the eagle, which would become Zeus’s lifelong messenger. Thanks to Rhea’s ingenuity, Zeus grew strong enough to return, challenge his father, and free his siblings.
